A home is personal; a space which speaks volumes about who you are, what you like, and how you live. You might have offered a loved one a cup to drink from or a quilt to sleep under, but imagine if these had been crafted by your own hands -- if the intimate connection with your home was achieved by mastering your craft, bringing raw materials to life and taking your space beyond decorating? Celebrated designer Tamara Maynes began her making practice as a child and has spent her career advocating its importance. In The Maker she invites you to enjoy the pride and camaraderie experienced by makers through time, while inspiring your own journey by sharing her love of structure and simplicity, nostalgia and modernity, and a respect for craftsmanship and great design.Drawing on her own practice and the work and musings of many of those she admires, Tamara hopes to stir 'the maker' in every reader; to encourage them to think for themselves, connect deeply and use their own hands to bring comfort, beauty and individuality to the space in which they live. Readers can delve beyond decorating and become their own maker by learning to recreate projects from wall art, objects and textiles, to ceramics, lighting and furniture, get inside the minds of other makers creative process through 'Maker to Maker' Q&A's, and discover how to develop a maker's eye to make your home truly you.
